DEHP, yumuşak PVC’yi esnek tutmak için uzun yıllar en çok kullanılan ftalattır. Şişme yüzme ürünlerinde, egzersiz toplarında, su geçirmez çantalarda, silikon görünümlü olta yemlerinde ve plastik tutma yerlerinde ölçülür. Safety Gate bildirimlerinde DEHP için kullanılan ifade, maddenin “üreme sistemine zarar verebileceği”dir.
Bildirimlerde ölçülen değerler çoğu zaman yasal sınırın yüzlerce katıdır; bazı ürünlerde malzemenin dörtte biri ile yarısı arasında DEHP’ten oluştuğu yazılır.
Yasal sınır. REACH Ek XVII, 51. madde (AB 2018/2005 ile değişik): DEHP, DBP, BBP ve DIBP, tek başına ya da birlikte, plastikleştirilmiş malzemenin ağırlıkça %0,1’i ve üstünde bulunduğu ürünlerde 7 Temmuz 2020’den beri piyasaya sürülemez.
